Brahmi is today a well-known herb taken for its adaptogenic properties and for the brain. However, there are two separate herbs called Brahmi, namely Bacopa Monnieri and Centella Asiatica (Gotu Kola). No doubt leading to some confusion, they are both called Brahmi not because they are mixed up or look alike. Rather they have very similar effects and both target the brain and nervous system, though they differ slightly. In most cases it makes no practical difference and both are effective enough at reducing symptoms of stress, burnout, absent-mindedness, difficulty concentrating and nervousness. I thought I would take the time to describe how I understand the difference between these two herbs so that you can choose.
Bacopa Monnieri contains bacosides A and B. Amino acids that have been shown to be involved in the building of neurons. In traditional Ayurveda, Bacopa Monnieri is recommended for burnout, stress and cognitive development of the brain because it has a healing effect and expanding effect. Students are often recommended to eat Bacopa Monnieri to take a typical example.
Centella Asiatica is the herb that in Ayurveda is instead recommended for specifically stress and inflammation. It affects both the brain and the body. It supports the management of stress, the cleansing of the brain, a calmer mind to optimize their own thoughts and sleep. Someone who has difficulty concentrating, sleeping and cannot find peace in everyday life is recommended to try Centella Asiatica or Gotu Kola as it is also called.
Of course, both sound very similar, they are. But I hope this helps you choose. Feel free to comment with your own experiences of Brahmi. We know that there are many who take this herb regularly and are satisfied. We have both herbs and also a combination of both called Memory.
