Why is Shilajit called Mountain Blood?
The black, sticky, tar-like mass is the result of a slow process that takes millions of years. Inside the mountains and in crevices, plants have been allowed to grow, decompose and mix with rock minerals. After decomposition, a black mass is left behind, which is then encapsulated in mountain pockets, when the sun heats up the mountains during spring and summer, Shilajit leaks out of these cracks, hence the name mountain blood. This mass is collected by local people and purified to be used just as it is without further treatment.
