The chaste tree is a small tree/shrub that grows 1-5 m high. It grows wild in the Balkans, Greece, Italy and other countries around the Mediterranean. The seeds contain flavonosides, alkoloids and essential oil and can be used like regular pepper but its taste is milder than that of regular pepper. Chaste tree and Monk's pepper have been assigned because the seeds have been known to inhibit the urge in both humans and animals. mHas traditionally been given as a tincture or extract to, for example, mares during the rutting season to get a smoother mood. Not recommended during lactation and pregnancy. More information can be found in books or online.
