Description: Basmati rice is the most widely used rice in Indian and Ayurvedic cooking. It is easily digestible for the stomach and provides a good source of carbohydrates that does not cause large fluctuations in blood sugar. This rice comes from the Taraori region in Northern India and is selected for its fine and non-sticky grains. Feel free to follow the instructions below to make perfect rice every time.
Preparation, about 2 servings:
Ingredients:
2 dl basmati rice
4 dl water
1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
Rinse the rice:
Put the rice in a bowl or strainer and rinse it under cold water. Keep rinsing until the water is clear to remove excess starch. Pour off any remaining liquid.
Boil water:
Measure 4 dl of water into a saucepan and add salt to taste, if necessary. Put the pan on the stove and let the water boil. You may want to add a pinch of cumin seeds to aid digestion and add flavor.
When the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice. Stir gently and reduce the heat to low so that it simmers or bubbles slightly.
Put the lid on and simmer the rice for about 15-20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is soft. Do not stir to retain the long grains.
After cooking, let the rice rest for a few minutes with the lid on to allow it to set and steam further.
