Kalonji seeds (also named black cumin or onion seed) smell of hardly anything and taste aromatic and slightly bitter. When dry fried in a frying pan it becomes particularly aromatic. Kalonji is often used for Indian dishes, especially for dal. Traditionally spread on bread.
